CHAPTER / RESEARCH

“Research use only” is not a care category

A laboratory disclaimer does not turn an online chemical into a medicine for personal treatment.

THE LABEL SAYS

“Not for human consumption.”

THE PAGE SHOWS

Health claims, mixing supplies, or a calculator meant for personal use.

FDA judges a product by how the seller expects it to be used, and it reads the whole sales page and the extras sold with it to tell.

The plain answer

As of September 2026, FDA has told online sellers that a research disclaimer does not count when their own pages show the product is meant as a drug for people.

FDA warning letters have also pointed to mixing water and injection guides as signs the seller expects people to inject the product.

Do not confuse a database entry with approval

As of September 2026, an NDC number can exist without FDA approval, and FDA says implying approval from that number is misleading.

The approval check belongs in the approved-drug record, not in a seller’s badge collection.

Where the comparison ends

A research chemical offered for self-treatment is not a lower-cost version of clinical care.

As of September 2026, the sound routes are an approved product or a lawful prescription-and-pharmacy path.
