CHAPTER / LICENCE

Check the person, not just the company name

Virginia keeps a free public record for doctors, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, and pharmacies.

STATE RECORD

A licence status and public disciplinary orders published by the regulator.

The state record is the check. The biography is only a claim.

The short lookup

  • Get the clinician’s full name and licence type.
  • Open Virginia’s Department of Health Professions License Lookup.
  • Match the person, profession, status, and any disciplinary orders (official actions the board has taken against a licence).
  • Save the result with the date you checked it.

What the search covers

As of September 2026, Virginia’s free lookup includes doctors, physician assistants, registered nurses, advanced practice registered nurses, pharmacists, pharmacies, and registered out-of-state pharmacies.

A clean record only means the board has published no action against this person. It does not tell you how skilled they are or whether they suit you.

For an online visit

As of September 2026, the key question is whether the clinician has authority in Virginia while the patient is located here.

A company address in another state does not answer that question.
