CHAPTER / PHARMACY
Ask which pharmacy will be on the label
A service name is not enough. The dispensing pharmacy has its own name, licence, and record.
WEAK ANSWER
“We use trusted partner pharmacies.”
CHECKABLE ANSWER
A full registered pharmacy name, location, and Virginia registration before payment.
A name turns a claim into a public-record check.
Run two checks
- Search the pharmacy in Virginia’s licence lookup.
- If it is an outsourcing facility (a larger business that makes compounded medicine in batches), also search FDA’s registered-facility list.
- Match the name on the prescription, invoice, and medicine label.
- Ask who answers medicine questions after delivery.
Mail-order rules in Virginia
As of September 2026, a pharmacy outside Virginia must register with Virginia before shipping prescription medicine into the state and must name a pharmacist in charge who holds a Virginia licence.
A pharmacy sending sterile compounded medicine into Virginia must notify the state pharmacy board.
Registration is not approval
As of September 2026, an outsourcing facility chooses to register with FDA. Being on FDA’s list is not FDA approval of anything the facility makes.
Licence, registration, inspection, and product approval are different checks.
